ninetd - A logging, restrictable, flexible version alternative to inetd. Ninetd was originally written a long time ago by Dennis Ferguson[*] during the early phases of the CA*Net. At that time, there were no alternatives to inetd. Tcp wrappers had not yet been released. The first versions of ninetd included a flexible configuration, restriction lists and logging. Ninetd has been in continuous use ever since, here at CNS. [*] Dennis's more well-known credits include xntpd, gated and Juniper Networks (jnx.com).
